About Shukraya
Why we built Shukraya
Too many astrology apps bury you in noise: information that is often inaccurate, alarming, or shaped to sell you something you don’t need. We wanted the opposite, a calm, accurate, trustworthy place where anyone serious about Jyotish (Vedic astrology) can work with confidence, whether they are a curious beginner, a dedicated student, a professional astrologer, or a teacher.
So we built Shukraya around accuracy and restraint. Every figure it shows is meant to be something you can rely on and reason from.
Information to interpret with, not interpretation done for you
Shukraya is built to inform your interpretation, not to replace it. We give you precise, well-organized information grounded in classical sources, and where interpretation is offered it stays close to what the classics commonly document. We deliberately stop there.
There are no AI interpretations in Shukraya. We don’t hand your chart to a machine to read on your behalf. Your intuition, your reasoning, and your own path of learning, teaching, and practice are yours, and we have no interest in crowding them out with an algorithm’s verdict.
Built to respect both traditions
Shukraya is grounded in Jyotish, but it is built to respect both the Vedic and Western traditions. If you come from Western astrology, you’ll find familiar elements and chart styles alongside the Jyotish tools, an approachable way to experiment with and learn Vedic astrology without leaving your instincts at the door. And if you think of yourself as a neo-Vedic astrologer, a newer term for practitioners who move fluidly between the two, Shukraya was built with you in mind, honouring what each tradition does well.
Privacy and confidentiality, by design
The astrology tools many of us used before too often treated personal information carelessly. Birth details, yours and your clients’, are sensitive, and we treat them that way.
- Your data is never sold, rented, or used for advertising.
- Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Passwords are protected with strong, salted hashing and are never stored in a form anyone can read.

- Access is invite-only while we’re in alpha, so the circle stays small and deliberate.
Our full commitments are in the Privacy Policy.
We’re human, too
We’ve gone to painstaking lengths to make Shukraya accurate, but we can still make mistakes. If you believe something isn’t being calculated correctly for the system you’ve selected, please tell us. We’d rather hear it, learn from it, and let Shukraya keep improving for the whole community.
With gratitude to those who came before
We built Shukraya as a labour of love: something beautiful, accurate, secure, and genuinely usable. But we didn’t arrive in an empty field. The apps and sites that came before raised awareness of Jyotish and made it accessible to many, and we’re grateful for that. In particular, we want to recognize Jagannatha Hora (JHora), the freely shared software authored by Prof. P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, whose careful work has helped countless students and practitioners hold their astrology to a higher standard.
Where we’re headed
Our long-term goal is a single, cohesive ecosystem. Shukraya is on the web today, and in time we want to bring it to native applications across mobile (iOS and Android) and desktop (macOS and Windows), so your work travels with you wherever you practice. These are goals we’re building toward, not promises of dates.
Our standard
Jyotish is a vast and serious science. We think it deserves tools held to a high standard, where accuracy genuinely matters and where the information is not only correct but approachable and beautifully presented. That is the standard we are building Shukraya to meet.
